Did you ever see the movie Ten Things I Hate About You? There’s a line from it, said by Bianca Stratford’s ditzy friend, that I always think of when I’m overwhelmed.
As the two girls are walking along, the ditzy friend says, “I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed. But can you ever just be whelmed?”
If you ask me what I think—I believe you can be whelmed. It’s just another (non) word for balance. Keeping perspective on things usually keeps me from becoming overwhelmed. I’m at one of those points where I could easily become overwhelmed (who really thinks having 3 jobs is a good idea???).
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my moments! The end of last week was a little dicey, but I gave myself my own stress management spiel, made myself focus on the moment I was in, and breathed deeply. How do you stop being overwhelmed when life and stress sneaks up on you?
