How much money do you spend in a year on beauty products? Sometimes I look at the price of lotions, exfoliators, toners, face wash…and I can’t believe how much it costs! Not only that, but the ingredient lists can be downright scary.
Have you heard this?
You should not put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put into your mouth!
Your skin is your largest organ, and it absorbs into your body, cells, and bloodstream whatever you put onto it. This means, your body is already exposed to environmental toxins via your skin…why add more gunk by putting chemicals on your skin on purpose?
There are many organic skincare lines popping up. I like Alba and a few others, and I really like the cleansing feeling that face wash with tea tree oil in it gives my skin (it has a strong smell too). Based on your own skin and needs, you should do a little research to see what types of products may be right for you.
One trick I learned about recently is probably the cheapest facial you’ll ever get!
Here’s what you do:
Put 1 tsp baking soda into a small bowl. Add your favorite lotion or face wash. Mix. Apply the mixture to your face.
If you used lotion, you’ll apply it like a mask. Massage it in with your fingertips, and let it sit for 10 minutes before washing it off.
Option 2 is to add face wash (I use Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil face wash, but you can use whatever you want). Mix. On your clean, wet face, apply the goo and massage it onto your skin with your fingertips (don’t scrub!!!). You can do this massage for up to a minute. Rinse.
It may be easiest to do Option 2 in the shower because its drippy and messier—but totally worth it! You’ve energized and exfoliated your skin, and you only put pure real substances in contact with your body!
Will you try it?
*Note: If you have super sensitive skin, you’ll want to use a very mild cleanser and/or lotion, and make sure you do not scrub! Also, do this facial at night in case there is any redness.
