A while ago, Pear Sports sent me a heart rate monitor and earphones, and I downloaded their app on my iPhone 4S.
I took a few days to browse the workout options and picked the ones I wanted to do first.
Basically, I began with the Calibration Workout, which is a 20-minute workout that estimates lactate threshold and training zones. After I did that, I wore the heart rate monitor and did a free format workout while I did the stairs.
Here’s what some of my workouts looked like:
I meant to wear the heart rate monitor when I was moving from Santa Monica to Westwood, but well, I forgot.
My analysis of the Pear Sports Gear? (and yes, they sent me the gear for free but the opinions are definitely my own!)
I love this thing! It’s so easy to use–I downloaded an app, chose my workouts, and the little guy talked me through it in my ear as I did the workout. I love that I can play Pandora while I’m working out and can still hear the guy talking to me about my workout. I also love that the app gives me time updates for how long I’ve been working out so I don’t have to pull my phone out of its workout holster and look at it.
I’ve tried other fitness tracking devices and this is hands down my favorite one. I love the workouts, but honestly I’ll mostly use this with the free format workout because I am generally more aimless about how I workout outside of yoga classes.
By the way, I’m about to join the Westwood Village YogaWorks and get back in shape. I’m not necessarily out of shape since I’ve been moving and walking all over, but I haven’t done yoga in a few weeks… and if you do yoga you know that means I’m gonna be sore!
News/Notes: Dave and I went to Texas last weekend. I met his Dad and other family members, and also met his high school friends (we were there for a wedding). Tyler, TX looks amazingly like where I grew up in Western/Upstate NY! It was humid too–my hair was a big mop.
I have some life changing things going on around here that I’m going to tell you about in November, but for now, I am going to be back around here more often. I have a lot of details taken care of for work I was doing and moving, and one of my classes got canceled for next term… so I can finally get back to sharing some of my newer recipes and things I’ve been researching lately.
I also have tentatively scheduled (with Pilar) for us to run a 28-Detox before the holidays… I’ll keep you posted!
The humidity in Texas is a killer! (Same thing here in Virginia!) That heart monitor tracker thing sounds cool! It would probably encourage me to keep going!
I showed this to Bruce and he wants one. I’ll get it for his Bday. He was just concerned about the ear buds. He has a special pair that stays in for him. Do you have to use theirs?
I think he can use any headphones he wants with it—I used my iphone headphones a few times so it’s a standard headphone plug-in thingy!
