I spent the last 5 days in southern California, in both LA and north of San Diego (Fallbrook/Temecula/Bonsall). There was just so much going on with the wedding, family, and Mom and I trying to make the most of our trip (we did, btw).
We (mom and I) uninvited the boys (all 3 of them) on this trip — we’re the only representation from our side of the family that could attend my cousin Jimmy’s wedding (Gpa and Gma are too old to travel, and there’s no one else), and we just thought it would be fun as a Girl’s Trip. Cousin Kristen picked us up at LAX on Friday morning and said…
“So good to see you! Um, so we have a little issue to deal with.”
This was predictable—a friend of Kristen’s has nicknamed her: “Complicated But Fun,” and this truly captures her essence.
Long Story Short: Because of a too short bridesmaid dress, Kristen talked Nordstrom into deconstructing two dresses (that were bought elsewhere) and connecting the correct top with the bottom half of another dress (and then shortening it to the right length). 14 hours later, it was done (she didn’t bother trying it on—sometimes it’s better not to know).
The highlights:
Sprouts health food store (only $1.50 for wheatgrass shots…and I’ve already failed once at recreating a version of the freeze dried beets that I ate everyday from there).
Other Details:
Both cousins forgot to pack underwear for wedding day—Jimmy’s mom delivered his, and we bought Kristen new ones (no, she did not wash before wearing).
The morning we left our resort, we walked outside and the car parked next to ours had the windows all smashed in. Thankfully this did not happen to Kristen’s brand new car (now named Y-Nez).
Car washes in Cali are awesome—full service, vacuum, wash, and hand dry—for $11.99. Cost to fill K’s SUV gas tank: $87.
Other Things:
We took the overnight flight home and loved it. I’ll do it again when I stay in Santa Monica again in August.
We have an apartment prospect in Canandaigua, but since the current tenant was arrested, we can’t look at it yet. Trashy situation, but perfect location and hopefully nice apartment. The downside: one parking spot (another one would have to be rented nearby). The upside: perfect location, reasonable rent.

Does your family laugh at their drama or get intense? We’re mostly go-with-the-flow (and laugh) people!

apartment: i say go for it. a location you love is THE BEST. any way you could do with one car?? or rent a spot from someone else?

Ahhhh beautiful! Country rustic and city chic mixed together are my favorite two things to mix. Such a beautiful balance of home and class. She did a fabulous job, especially with the smores station! I don’t blame you for not eating it haha, whenever I get baked goods from Eco Bella with the fam I go into major sugar shock. At least the cake was good 🙂
I especially love the picture with the faces cropped out — there is something about those kinds of pictures that is just so much more interesting.

Gorgeous location! I love the Smores station. I don’t think I would have had the same willpower as you. Your dress looks lovely…wish we could see the whole thing! And your mom is beautiful. I love that she’s so youthful and glowing, but she also embraces her gray. I need more gray role models.

“So good, I promptly ordered kelp noodles online” you and I are a lot alike, I would have done the same thing! 😉 I don’t know… parking is a big deal to me, it may be a deal breaker. (here in Oregon it rains a lot, I would think of walking with groceries, etc…) Jason and I once looked at an AWESOME house, and we were all set to offer, and the driveway and surrounding street was the deal breaker – too small for two cars, hard to get out of, no street parking for friends to park when we entertain. sorry for the long novel, you said the rented space was nearby – maybe it wouldn’t be bad :)my family is crazy – we are loud and we laugh and have fun. we get looks sometimes. I am happy to say my favorite travel buddy is Jason 🙂 I used to travel a lot, and often alone, and was such a nervous flier… now when I fly with Jason things are FINE… I call him my soother :)this looks like a a fun trip!!

I got the goldberries at Sprouts, but I’ve seen them in other health food
stores. If you have somewhere that sells Navitas Naturals, that brand sells
them in a yellow bag!
Thanks—my mom has never colored her hair, and interestingly, after
drinking fresh veg/fruit juice for over a year, her hair began to go back to
its original color—so it’s less gray now than it used to be!
I think there will be other pics of my dress—I hope so, cuz I really liked

My friend Amber is the best travel buddy. We travelled Australia together and a few years later did a trip to New Orleans. She’s always up for doing stuff and always has the best attitude – which is very useful when backpacking!!
