Dinner Dates – Lately, I’ve been all work and not much play. It’s ok for now, but I’m happy to say I have three dinner dates this week. One was on Monday with my oldest friend Kyle, another is tomorrow with a more recently met friend Lisa, and the third is with a blogger friend Katelyn whom I have not yet met!
Sweet Potatoes – I am not a sweet potato person. Or, I wasn’t. Until yesterday. I was going to make brownies with a mini sweet potato (well, just one brownie–the mini sweet pots were bought strategically for Portion Control). Yesterday, as I mixed ingredients, I ate all the batter before I could morph it into a brownie. Today, before I even got to adding chocolate, I made the most awesome and simple thing I’ve ever tasted in my life. It rivals (beats?) avocado pudding.
Chop – Lately, all my salads look like this. Chopped into small pieces with my mezzaluna. I swear these salads are better than regular ones.
Hometown – Last time Matthew was here, he convinced me he needed new hiking boots (I’m a sucker for buying my little man anything he needs. Second grade is rough, ya know? Plus, he knows how to play me). We tried every place I could think of in Rochester, and he suggested the mennonite store in Benton Center. I begrudgingly stopped there on my way to drop him off at home (I am a chicken about going to places like that). They had the exact hiking boots he wanted from Dick’s sporting goods website…only they were $10 cheaper. Who says you can’t buy clothes in Penn Yan?
I also stopped at a little bulk/health food store in the country called Catlin’s. It’s where I get Dandy Blend (p.s. I bought an extra one to give away soon). I bought a sprouting lid, and dry organic chickpeas. Coming soon: sprouted hummus and sprouted socca. I know, you can’t wait—me neither!
Variety – I ate chocolate avocado pudding everyday last week. For the past two days, I’ve renewed my relationship with Vega products, and instead of chocolate, I added a scoop of Vanilla Chai Vega and a tbsp of Berry Shake ‘n Go Vega. It’s awesome, albeit ugly.
New – I had the urge to buy new things in the produce department yesterday.
Let’s just look at this again for emphasis.
Do you like sweet potatoes? I really am not a fan of the traditional sweet potato dishes (not really even the fries). But this…total love.
Do you sprout things? Do you chop your salads?
Yes, good friends need new pics!!! I love sweet potatoes and could probably eat them every day. Are we going to have to be for the un-brownie recipe???? Or did I totally miss it somewhere 😉
I love sweet potatoes. I'm making sweet potato saag as I type!
Girl I am so excited for our dinner date!! Slash I cannot believe you went all the way out to Penn Yan, I never thought of going there for shopping! I've been sprouting a LOT lately, and I just use a cheesecloth from Wegmans and the screw part of my Bell Mason Jars. Works like a charm!:)
Also, those baby garnets are adorable! Did you find the baby package at Weggie's?
I'm going to post the recipe—I have to recreate it first though…because
I didn't measure anything!
I have a new thing for sweet potatoes as well! I cube them up and roast them in the oven. My husband says I need to take a break from making them, though, otherwise he'll get sick of them (and I don't want that to happen!). 🙂
I cannot wait to try this pudding you keep talking about!!
oh, it's so good to have socials with friends – and you've got a real mix this week! old + new!
i never liked sweet potatoes at all until just about 6 months ago when i had them at my brother and SIL's – my brother makes sweet potato fries, and i LOVED them and now can't get enough, even make my own at home. hm. such a mystery! changed taste buds? (although it was also texture that i never enjoyed).
i've never sprouted! 🙂
country stores are the BEST. don't you always feel victorious when you score a deal! bah hahahaha!!
I love sweet potatoes! In fact that's probably what I will eat for dinner tonight. I can't wait for the sprouted hummus yum!
Meh… don't really like sweet potatoes.
I wish I sprouted things. I haven't been able to get myself to do that. Itty Bitty apartment + even smaller “kitchen” space (if you could call it that) means I haven't sprouted anything, even though I would really like to.
Avocado-chocolate pudding is heavenly. =)
Sweet potatoes are my jam. I love them so much I might marry them if Ryan doesn't ask soon. Speaking of Ryan…he's listening to podcasts daily about sprouting so it's in our near future for sure!!
I love sweet potatoes baked with cinnamon on top!!!!!!!!!
Hope you have a good time on your dinner dates! =D
Um… why are you still not linking gorgeousness like this salad and sweet potato mash up with what I ate wednesday? silly girl! i love ya regardless!!!
ohmygosh i need to hear more and more about the legume sprouting! are you sprouting chickpeas? tell me more tell me more!
my spirulizer came in the mail today! =) thought of you!
xoXOxo

I like baked sweet potatoes! They are so yummy! I do not like sweet potato casserole though- too sweet for me! Glad you have so many fun dinner dates!! That always makes for a fabulous week. And the sprouting lid looks like fun!
I just edited it and added 🙂
I am sprouting chickpeas…they are growing tails! They smell a little
funky, but I think they're germinating or something 🙂
I'll post more info when I turn them into something!
I am so scared of sprouts so I havent gone there…… yet. I am sure that I will soon. It was not long ago I couldnt imagine a Green Monster!!!!
It's all about the baby steps!
I was scared of sprouts for approximately 6 years before I tried it…now
it's just so easy and an awesome way to pack in really great (cheap)
nutrients! Plus, they don't require pesticides 🙂
Also…they make a great add to green monsters!
Chocolate avocado pudding sounds like the most amazing thing ever!!! I go back and forth with sweet potatoes, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather have a normal spud! 🙂
They have a large selection of baby potatoes (lots of varieties) like these
in wegmans right now (at least in pittsford).
I need to buy some cheesecloth! I def need more than one jar for sprouting
going at a time 🙂
Definitely don't make him hate the sweet potatoes 🙂
here's our goal: one photo every time we're together, regardless if we look fabu or not. that way we'll eventually get something good! 🙂 i should start doing avocado pudding and taking it to work for a snack. mmmmm. also, i love katelyn's suggestion for the cheesecloth… so much easier than the lid! keep me posted on the results of the chickpeas (and the resulting flavor…) the smell could be because of the water (i know this is a dumb question… but…) you're rinsing and changing the water every day, right? when i do sprouts if i miss one rinse a day it's ok but if i miss both… straight into the trash. smelly usually equals salmonella i thought… anyway, cheers to dinner dates!! 🙂
I love sweet potatoes! I always think I will use them in something, but I end up eating them anyway. As for sprouting…YES! We sprout mung beans all the time here. We tried chickpeas before, but they smelled funky and we were scared. I can't wait to see what you do with them!
Rinsing twice a day (or three times if I'm on top of it)… It's the same
smell as when I tried to make rejuvelac…I think it's just the fermenting
smell. It's not like a rotten ick…just a little funky. I read this is
common for chickpeas…hopefully it doesn't translate into a funky taste
like I've heard too. I have high hopes!
Yes on the pics. We'll work on it 🙂
Let's get together and make a mess in the kitch soon!
I eat the hell out of some sweet potatoes… any way I can get them really. I love them so.
i sometimes make sweet potato fries, but they always turn out black. (haha…that can't be normal, can it??) i've never heard of chocolate and avocado together, you just eat that as a snack?
Pingback: if it comes in 3’s…
I usually eat the avocado pudding mid afternoon when I really want to take a
nap, or eat to procrastinate doing work…. The without-sugar version is
just an avocado plus vanilla stevia and unsweetened cocoa powder (and
sometimes protein powder)….the little bit tastier version uses agave or
sweetened cocoa powder with the avocado instead of stevia. I put it in the
blender—it's really great, and makes me full so I can stop eating for a
while. The food processor would work better than a non-vita-mix blender
(because the vita-mix has the tamper that helps it to blend).
I'm a lover of sweet potatoes! I could seriously eat them everyday and love every since bite.
I'm excited to see your hummus and socca made from sprouted chickpeas! :))
i am totally obsessed with sweet potatoes and i'm very intrigued by your avocado pudding. sounds yum! have fun on your dinner dates 🙂
I'm glad your getting in some play time! You deserve it girl. I could eat sweet potatoes pretty much any way; baked, roasted, as fries, you name it! Last night I had a baked sweet potatoe witha little bit of Smart Balance and cinnamon. It was like dessert! 🙂
Moksha yoga is my favorite! It's a chain of hot yoga studios in Canada… there's more info on how they definte themselves here: http://www.mokshayoga.ca/hy-wh… (hopefully it will let me post that). I love that their classes begin and end with savasana and they play amazing music!
I love the look of your chopped salad… it might be breakfast time here but I'm already ready for lunch! I always chop my veggies too. I get teased about my bite-sized pieces but at least I don't have to use a knife to eat it, right?!
Yay for playtime–I've been all work and little play lately too! My night out on Saturday was the first in a few months!
I love all things sweet potato!!
I love chopped salads! The veggies are able to soak up so much more flavor and you can get more variety in every bite. There's a place near my office called Chop't that does just that: delicious chopped up salads made to order :).
