I got a smoothie recipe from Sarma at www.oneluckyduck.com a couple days ago—and I really wanted to try it for Valentine’s Day. Why? It’s pink, plus I wanted Joe to try it and I figured he wouldn’t say no if I acted like it was made specially for him. And it was, kinda.
Anyway, I went to Lori’s to buy the ingredients this morning, and after getting halfway there and going back home to get my wallet, I spent something like $83. I have no idea how that happens, but I do know that I am no longer proud of myself for staying out of Wegmans all week—I realized I went to Lori’s 5 days out of 7. Some of the powders and things used in smoothies like this are expensive, but you only use small amounts and they last a long time!
I didn’t follow Sarma’s recipe because I couldn’t find all the ingredients and I didn’t want to make extra stops, so it’s just inspired by her recipe.
Anyway, here’s my recipe:
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup frozen raspberries
1.5 cup almond milk
1.5 cup coconut water
2 Tbsp Yacon powder
2 Tbsp Hemp protein powder
1 Tbsp Maca powder
2 Tbsp Agave (or pinch of stevia—I used agave)
2 Tbsp Vanilla extract
Blend. Pour Half into 2 glasses.
Add 1 Tbsp pure unprocessed Cacao (cocoa powder) to the part that is still in the blender.
Blend. Pour slowly on top in your two glasses. Put a couple raspberries or strawberries on top.
It’s supposed to make a drink with two layers—-mine didn’t really look any different, but the top layer had a chocolatey taste and the bottom didn’t. I didn’t get good pics, but I’ll put them in here anyway.
Seriously, this was the best smoothie I’ve had in a really long time. Joe loved it too. He’s a big fan of the Hemp protein in general for after-workout smoothies, and I told him how the yacon and maca would make him a faster runner.
Happy Valentine’s Day again!
